My best guess is that the set was purchased around 1920 in the Boston area by my maternal grandparents. My maternal grandfather was teaching electrical engineering at the Wentworth Institute in Boston & had an apt in one of the many "Newton" suburbs. I can provide a photo copy of a approx. 4" x 5" black & white, very dark photo of the set in the apt to anyone who is seriously interested. No way to tell what year taken but probably the 1920's.
The set was refinished locally in the 1990's, except for the expansion leaves, which have not been used in over 50 years.
The set itself:
1) The Sideboard/Buffet is 54" wide x 22" deep x 40" high to the flat top portion & 44.5" high to the top of the back of the piece. Photos also show small details, such a dovetailed construction.
2) The Serving Tray rests vertically in a groove on top of the sideboard/buffet. Unfortunately, the curved wood "band" around the edge of the tray has separated at one point & needs a short section re-glued to the oval wood tray bottom.
3) The solid mahogany table is approx. 54" in diameter without the 4 narrow expansion leaves, which turns it into a long oval table. The table has a center pair of joined legs as well as 4 individual legs around the outer perimeter of the table, which is "solid" & very heavy. There are 4 expansion leaves to the mahogany dining room table. They each measure 10 1/2" wide x 54" long and have not been refinished. The expanded table would be an oval approx. 96" long or 8', which must be a standard extended length. They rest in a very sturdy, long, wooden storage box, separated from each other. I have included this label as well, but can't clearly decipher it.
4) There are 6 straight back chairs. The seat cushions have a webbing underneath, supporting the seat cushions. The chairs were made by Conant Ball Co. Chairmakers of Boston. A photo of this label is included with the other photos.
The set needs to be picked up at my heated storage unit in Bristol, Vermont. I cannot deliver it myself. I'm glad to show a serious buyer the set by visiting the storage unit before they make a final decision on purchase. Pieces included are: table, 4 leaves, buffet, tray, 6 chairs, storage box for leaves, 2 keys, and I think I've listed all pieces.
